Tone identification may not be as precise or thesis as forcefully worded as in essays. They respond to the task with a plausible reading of the passage but tend to be superficial or undeveloped.
Students respond correctly but do not devote enough space to arguments. These papers are not as thorough, precise, or aware of complexities as the top scoring papers. Remember, "so what" refers to the main idea the writer was trying to communicate as you see it.
The prose demonstrates an ability to express ideas clearly but with less maturity and control than the top-scoring papers. Generally, essays scored a 5 lack the more effective organization and the more sustained development characteristic of those that received points.
Each of these essays help students develop their skills in writing about literature. Although they may have attempted to answer the question, the views presented typically have little clarity or coherence.
For the log, get a binder 1" is preferred, not larger and begin collecting the documents for each of the 10 "regular" essays you do not need to put your critical essay responses in this log.
What was my "so what? Two are an analysis of a critical essay. It is the idea that is universal, timeless, and human. After the conference, record what was discussed and what you plan to take from the discussion to improve your writing.
